CREW Careers: Building Opportunities

Mission: The CREW Careers: Building Opportunities program is a participatory program developed by the CREW Foundation and targeted towards teenage girls, focusing on the fundamentals of commercial real estate and the career opportunities within the industry.

History:
This national program began in Dallas in 2004 when CREW Dallas invited girls from Girls Inc. to participate in a Women Build program in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.  After the success in Dallas, CREW Network rolled out the program, with considerable enhancements, out to all of the CREW chapters nationally.

In 2008, CREW Dallas adopted the "This Old Building" program format.  This one-day event, allows the participating girls to tour an "old building" set for renovationi and market re-targeting.  After which, they learn about the various careers in commercial real estate which would contribute to the project and then breat into teams to become commercial real estate developers for a day.  Each team will plan the buildings renovation, selecting the product type and then presenting their plan to a panel of judges.  Prized are awarded for the winning team.

This years CREW Careers: Building Opportunities program will partner with the Irma Lerma Rangel School, a DISD operated all-girl college prepatory school located near Fair Park.  Twenty five junior and senior level students are selected to participate.

"CREW Careers aims to improve the economic self-sufficienty of girls and women.  By focusing on the students at the Irma Rangel School and on commercial real estate careers as a key initiative, CREW Careers will instill knowledge, empowerment, desire and skills in the girls who participate", said Etonya Senigaur, 2009 chairman of the event and project manager for CB Richard Ellis/Health Care Services.
